1. Purpose of This Policy
ResearchPal uses a combination of proprietary platform technologies and carefully selected third-party AI models to help you analyze research papers, generate literature reviews and summaries, extract citations, answer research questions, and assist with academic writing. This policy explains, in plain language, how our AI-powered features work, how your data is processed when you use them, and the choices available to you. It supplements our Privacy Policy and Terms & Conditions.
2. How ResearchPal Uses AI
Our AI features may include:
Summarizing uploaded documents and papers.
Answering questions based on your uploaded content ("chat with your documents").
Extracting and formatting citations.
Surfacing related literature and research insights.
Improving search relevance and recommendations.
ResearchPal's AI-powered features combine our proprietary research platform, workflows, and document processing technologies with trusted third-party AI models. When you use AI features, your documents, prompts, or queries may be securely processed by these providers solely to generate the requested output. ResearchPal does not use your content to train its own AI systems, and we do not permit third-party AI providers to use your submitted content for model training where contractual and technical safeguards are in place.
3. What Data Is Used by Our AI
When you use an AI-powered feature, the following may be processed by our systems:
The content of documents you upload or paste.
Your prompts, questions, and instructions to the AI.
Relevant account/session metadata needed to return a response to you.
We limit the data used to what is necessary to generate the requested output, and it is processed on infrastructure we control or that operates under strict data-processing agreements.
4. Model Training & Your Content
ResearchPal does not use your uploaded documents, prompts, or queries to train, fine-tune, or otherwise improve our AI models — in raw, de-identified, or any other form. Your content is used solely to generate the response you requested, in that session. If this practice ever changes, we will update this policy in advance and, where required by law, obtain your consent first.
5. Human Review
AI outputs are generated automatically and are not routinely reviewed by humans. In limited circumstances — investigating abuse, debugging errors, or responding to a support request you initiate — authorized ResearchPal personnel may review specific interactions, subject to confidentiality obligations.
6. Accuracy, Limitations & Hallucination Risk
AI-generated summaries, citations, and answers can be inaccurate, incomplete, biased, or entirely fabricated ("hallucinations"), including incorrect citations or misattributed quotes. AI outputs are a starting point for your research, not a final authority. You are responsible for independently verifying any AI-generated content — facts, citations, and sources — before relying on it for academic, professional, or published work.
7. Academic Integrity
ResearchPal is a research aid intended to support, not replace, your own critical analysis. You are responsible for complying with your institution's or publisher's policies on AI-tool use in coursework, theses, and publications, including any required disclosures.
8. Your Controls
Delete uploaded documents and chat history at any time from your account.
Request a copy of the AI interaction data tied to your account by contacting info@researchpal.co.
Request deletion of your data ahead of our standard 30-day post-deletion retention window by contacting us directly.
9. Data Security for AI Processing
Content processed by our AI is encrypted in transit and at rest. Access to raw document content is restricted to the systems and personnel that need it to operate the Service.
10. Children & AI Features
AI features are not directed at children under 13. See our Privacy Policy for full children's-privacy practices.
11. Updates to This Policy
As our AI technology evolves, we will update this policy and notify users of material changes via email or in-app notice.
